HEIC to PNG Converter

When PNG is the right choice

PNG is a lossless format: once the HEIC image is decoded, every pixel is stored exactly as it is. That makes PNG a good intermediate format when you plan to edit a photo, combine it with graphics, or keep a master copy that won't degrade with repeated saves.

Choose PNG when you need:

• a lossless copy of an iPhone photo for retouching;
• transparency, for example subjects lifted from the background on iOS, stickers or graphics exported as HEIC;
• screenshots or diagrams with sharp text and flat colours;
• maximum compatibility with design and office software.

The trade-off: file size

Because PNG doesn't discard any information, PNG files of photographs are large — often five to ten times the size of the original HEIC. For sharing photos by email or messaging, HEIC to JPG is usually the better option. For websites, HEIC to WebP gives much smaller files and still supports transparency.

If a PNG is too large, reduce its dimensions with the Size option — a 12-megapixel photo resized to a maximum of 2560 px is roughly a third of the pixels.

Colour accuracy

HEIC photos from iPhones typically use the Display P3 colour space. The converter embeds the original ICC colour profile in the PNG file, so colour-managed apps display it exactly as intended. Quality settings don't apply to PNG — the output is always lossless.

Metadata in PNG files

PNG supports Exif metadata through an eXIf chunk. By default the converter copies capture date and camera information into the PNG. Some older programs ignore PNG metadata; if you need metadata that every app reads, JPG is more widely supported.
