Why use this tool

Why convert HEIC to JPG?

HEIC is an efficient format, but it isn't universally supported. You may need JPG when you want to:

  • upload a photo to a website, online form or job application that rejects HEIC files;
  • open iPhone photos on a Windows PC without installing extra codecs;
  • send pictures to Android users or older apps;
  • order prints or photo books from services that only accept JPG;
  • edit photos in software that doesn't read HEIC.

JPG is supported by practically every device made in the last 25 years, which makes it the safest choice for sharing.

Is quality lost when converting HEIC to JPG?

Both formats use lossy compression, so the photo is re-encoded. HEIC.IS uses a High quality setting by default, which keeps detail that is indistinguishable from the original at normal viewing sizes. If you need even more headroom — for example before heavy editing — choose Maximum in Options, or convert to PNG for a lossless copy.

Expect JPG files to be larger than the original HEIC. That's normal: HEIC's compression is more efficient. If file size matters, lower the quality or use a smaller output size with the HEIC compressor.

Colour and transparency

iPhone photos are usually captured in the wide Display P3 colour space. The converter embeds the original colour profile in the JPG, so colours look the same as in the Photos app on colour-managed screens.

JPG can't store transparency. If a HEIC image has a transparent background — for example a sticker or cut-out subject — the transparent areas become white. Use HEIC to PNG or HEIC to WebP to keep transparency.

Converting on iPhone

Open this page in Safari, tap Choose files and select photos from your library. After converting, tap the share icon next to a photo and choose Save Image to put the JPG back in your camera roll. To stop your iPhone from creating HEIC files in the future, set Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible.

Why is my JPG bigger than the HEIC file?

Yes. Open HEIC.IS in Chrome, Edge or Firefox, drop the files and download the JPGs. No codec or app installation is needed.

Does HEIC to JPG keep the photo's location?

By default all metadata is kept, including GPS location if the photo has it. Choose “Remove location” in Options to strip GPS data before sharing.

What about Live Photos?

A Live Photo is a HEIC still image plus a separate short video. The converter converts the still image; the motion part is not included in the JPG.
