How to Convert iPhone Photos to JPG (5 Methods)
Five practical ways to get JPG files from your iPhone — change a camera setting, convert automatically when transferring, or convert existing HEIC photos in seconds.
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default. That's great for storage, but sooner or later you'll need a JPG — for a website form, a Windows PC, a print shop or a friend's old laptop. Here are five ways to get there, depending on whether you want to convert photos you already have or change what your iPhone creates.
Method 1: Convert existing photos in your browser
For photos that are already HEIC, the quickest route is an in-browser converter:
- On your iPhone, open HEIC to JPG in Safari.
- Tap Choose files and select the photos from your library.
- Tap Convert.
- Tap the share icon next to a photo and choose Save Image to put the JPG in your camera roll — or download everything as a ZIP.
The conversion happens on your iPhone itself; your photos are not uploaded. It works the same way on a computer if your photos are already there.
Method 2: Save new photos as JPG
If you'd rather never deal with HEIC again:
- Open Settings → Camera → Formats.
- Choose Most Compatible.
From now on the Camera app saves photos as JPG (and videos as H.264). Keep in mind that JPG files take noticeably more space than HEIC, and some features — such as 48 MP HEIF Max photos on Pro models — require High Efficiency.
Method 3: Convert automatically when copying to a computer
- Open Settings → Photos.
- Under Transfer to Mac or PC, select Automatic.
When you import photos over a USB cable (for example with the Windows Photos app), iOS converts them to JPG on the fly. The originals on your iPhone stay HEIC. Choose Keep Originals if you want the HEIC files instead.
Method 4: Share photos — iOS often converts for you
Many sharing paths convert automatically. Mail and many messaging apps receive a JPG when you share a HEIC photo, because iOS knows the recipient may not support HEIC. This behaviour depends on the app, so it isn't reliable for bulk exports, but it's handy for one-off sends.
Method 5: Export from a Mac
